Kennedy Hope Haven Scholarship Winner for 2011 - Justin Simmons The 2011 scholarship was given to a band student from Cane Bay High School based on good moral character, kindness of heart and financial need. Justin, as a senior for Cane Bay High School was captain of the band and performed in Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Concert Band. Justin is very active in his church, plays in a christian rock band and will be attending Charleston Southern University (CSU) this fall. Congratulations Justin - we wish you the very best in your future endeavors!!! DaQuan Wescott - Intern 2011 DaQuan Says "When I was young, I was crowned most creative in my school. I love trying to find new ways to express emotions and I love to study how other cultures and societies view life. I joined the 2010-2011 Cane Bay Cobra Regiment as a Junior and it's left me with only one regret...that I didn't start sooner. I started juggling chorus, band, pep club, dance team and regular everyday life. I found it hard but the warm, inviting people and atmosphere in the band program really kept me going. I am so proud to have earned the brass award for my first year playing a tuba. As a senior my top goal will be expressing the freedom of expression. I recently scored big on the BEST internship EVER at Hope Haven Photography and it's really inspired me to follow my plans for Graphic Design/Artistic Expression. In my particular field of graphic design, I use one software program and I hope to learn more at Hope Haven Photography." Custom Paintings!!! Yes! - We do them !! Favorite Place of the Month Cypress Gardens We saw on their facebook page that they had a free admission day in June. We really really enjoyed our visit there. We took a boat ride. They have lots of boats available and they are very easy to paddle through the swamp lake. You will see lots of flora and fauna and take a step back in time to a place uncluttered by all the electronics that seem to control our lives. So our recommendation is to include a visit to Cypress Gardens every trip to the Low Country. Have you booked your senior session? Don't wait til the last minute, we will be booked up! Aurora Alert for my Northern Friends

An event on the Sun occurred on the 7th of June. Prompt arrival of high speed particles has already affected the atmosphere. Our model indicates that the shock wave will reach Earth on the 8th of June around 5pm GMT. This will be followed by a disturbance in the solar wind that should produce fairly extensive auroral displays within 24 hr after that time.

For the Northern Hemisphere, the aurora should be visible mainly in North America, since the sun is illuminating most of the auroral zone in Russia and Scandinavia. If the timing is right, the disturbance will lead to auroras visible from the Northern US on the night of the 8th.

Antarctica will see the display even beginning with the shock arrival on the 8th. For Tasmania and Southern New Zealand it will be the 9th.

It is difficult to predict what the K index will be during night of the 8th in North America, but it is reasonable to expect K=6 which would put the aurora over Milwaukee, and visible on the northern horizon on a line from Portland Ore, southern Nebraska, southern Indiana, to Washington, DC.

Go to the auroral forecast page at: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast

and watch the Short Term (1 hr) forecast. It will increase when the arrival of the disturbance is one hour away. It will also show you whether you can see the aurora from your vantage point, if you choose the map that shows your location.

If you are north of 55 deg latitude, it may be too light to see the aurora at night. Let us know of your success or failure and we will amend the section on the auroral forecast page called "Viewing the aurora in the Northern Summer".

Cane Bay 2011 Hope Haven Award

My Name is Steven Lee

Denise wanted to be here yet instead she is resting after surgery today.

This scholarship is continuing a tradition began in 2007 in Seattle Washington.

Each year we give a percentage of our profit to a senior in a creative program in our local high school.

This year we chose to honor a band student, next year it will be open to all fine arts.

As a requirement of the award the student must be recognized by his director as well as school administration for leadership, having good moral character a kind heart and financial need.

While there are actually several seniors who fit this classification, it was a difficult choice.

The recipient of 2011 HOPE HAVEN Photography scholarship for $250 is

Justin Simmons.

Hope Haven Photography Scholarship lives on.

Continuing a tradition we began in Seattle, we are getting to award a graduating senior with a small scholarship to help with books, ect. This scholarship does not mean the recipient must take part in photography, just higher education.

Steven will be presenting the award tomorrow night at the Cane Bay High School's Senior award night.

Our scholarship award is based on Leadership, Good Moral Character, a Kind Heart and Financial need. There were actually several students who fit this criteria.

So the graduating senior from Cane Bay High School Band who will receive this award is..... Stay tuned.
