How Best to Prepare for your Portrait Session Considering what to wear - you want to consider both age and personality. Solid colors almost always work best. Covering as much of the arm as possible is usually a benefit as well. Don't forget to try on all your choices ahead of time. Bring several changes of clothes, we like to help out as much as possible, and can help choose the most flattering cuts and colors. Bring personal items that have special meaning or highlight the occasion, such as musical instruments, special hat or shawl. Choose a time and day that takes into account your families schedule and allow plenty of time prior for preparations. You want to arrive for your session relaxed and ready. Browse our site, magazines or other books. Bring us any ideas you might have. We can recreate any look. During your session, we will try a variety of poses and lighting effects to create both classic and contemporary looks. A little planning and prep time can help your portraits look their very best. Under the Federal Copyright Act of 1976 (effective January 1, 1978 and amended when the USA joined the Berne Convention in 1989), photographs are protected by copyright from the moment of creation. Hope Haven Photography has NEVER sold the copyright of any image. We do sell licenses for specific uses, however when we sell a print of image, you are NOT allowed to copy it in any way, for any use. Sorry folks, not even for Facebook; however, we will prepare a digital image for Facebook use at no charge. If you have already purchased the image in some form or another, we will create for you a low-resolution (not print ready) and water marked (protects image from being stolen by thief's) and post it to Facebook for your sharing purposes. Aren't we nice? We are members of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and they are fantastic watch dogs for the rights of photographers. Are you a garbage truck?

This has to be one of the best emails I have received in a long time because when you sit and think about the meaning, it is so true. Law of the Garbage Truck This concerns the reaction of a taxi driver, who, one day experienced a black car which jumped out of a parking space right in front of him. The taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at the taxi driver. He just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. You might wonder why he react that way; that guy had almost ruined the taxi and sent the driver to the hospital!' This is when this taxi driver explained what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck:'Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.. Don't take it personally!!! Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!Have a garbage-free day! "Faith is not believing God can, it is knowing that God will."

Thinking Outside the Box

How often do you think "my pictures are starting to look ho-hum or average"? Spend a few minutes each day dreaming about weird and exciting images to photograph. Keep a journal and one a week choose the most exciting idea from the list and give it a shot.

Some of my idea have been:
Shooting smoke
Odd shapes that resemble everyday items.
Water drops
Milk drops
Coffee Foam
Bubbles

A Photographer, etymologically speaking, is one who 'writes' (graphe) with 'light' (photo).

The key is to see things others do not see.
